Naming your online business site is very important but may be a surprise to some to learn that some domain names are not a part of their website name. It may be obvious to most to name their websites after their domain name for heightened business purposes, but some are unaware of how significant this really is.
Domain and URL Significance
• One reason naming a site after its domain name is when people think of your website, you want them to think of it by name. If your name and URL are the same, they will automatically know where to go. An example of this would be in the case of the website named thefreecountry.com. People do not have to question where to go because the name of the site and the URL are the same.
• In the modern world of internet usage, it is very important to have a domain name that is a clear representation of your business. This will help because there are fewer things for your visitors, clients, or customers to remember. A good rule of thumb to remember is that people most likely will not memorize an unrelated URL.
• If you really desire a particular domain name but it is currently registered with someone else there are a few avenues you can go:
1. First, you can try to buy the domain name from the owner. You do this by checking the “whois” data for this particular domain and get in touch with the person it is currently listed under to see if they are willing to sell. It is important to not that if the person is willing to sell, they may charge a higher fee than you will typically be charged when you purchase a new domain.
2. If you want to go the cheaper route and try obtaining a domain name then name your business or website after the domain you have purchased.
